Com lançamento marcado para 9 de julho, o novo filme mostrará Cruise como mentor de uma nova geração de pilotos, que luta para se manter necessária em um mundo recheado de drones.

Completam o elenco nomes como Val Kilmer, Glen Powell, Jennifer Connelly, Miles Teller, Jon Hamm, Ed Harris e Lewis Pullman. O roteiro foi escrito por Peter Craig, Justin Marks e Eric Warren Singer e foi retrabalhado por Christopher McQuarrie. Joseph Kosinski, que dirigiu Cruise em Oblivion (2013), é o diretor.
